An Experience with the Mother's Photograph:

An Experience with the Mother's Photograph:

From the book    "VISIONS OF CHAMPAKLAL"
(Compiled and Edited by Roshan and Apurva)
20.7.1977
On the day we arrived at brother Kanad's house at Jammu, the first thing I saw was the Mother's beautiful photograph hanging on the wall of the verandah. I have seen many photographs of this type. But this one was exceptionally beautiful. It made me very happy.
One afternoon during our stay there, almost everybody was resting. I did not require rest because by the Mother's grace, I always felt very fresh. So I went to the verandah to enjoy the open air, and sat on a chair. The Mother's photograph was there just behind me. My neck spontaneously turned again and again in its direction. It was very difficult to move my sight from Her. It seemed to me as if the Mother were standing and looking at me from the window. I was so happy to see it and was enjoying it very much. Just then brother Kanad came and sat beside me. As I was observing silence, I wrote for him what I felt about the photograph.
In the evening we were sitting on the lawn in a circle. After some time brother Kanad came and sat beside me and asked for blessings. I thought it would be very interesting for him to know what had happened just before he came. Here is the account written by our brother Richard who was also present:
"When we came back, we met the friendly dog (female) who, seeing us, began to wag her tail. Then we sat on the lawn in a circle. Behind, in the verandah, the Mother's photograph was hanging on the wall. Suddenly the dog began to bark, facing the verandah, as though some stranger had come there. Umaben laughed and said, "The dog has just now noticed the Mother's photograph." We could not believe this and began to suggest other possible explanations. But no! the dog moved about, near the verandah, growling as she looked up and did not want to go near. Champaklal was watching intently. Umaben tried to tell the dog to be quiet, but she would not, and Champaklal seeing something behind this strange behaviour of the dog, signed to Umaben not to stop the dog from barking. Again and again
 Champaklal signed to her
Then perhaps to show us that the Mother's photograph was the cause of the excitement or perhaps to calm the dog, Umaben got up quietly and, speaking to the dog, went and stood under the Mother's photograph in the verandah. She called her to show that there was no reason for fear.
The dog came, first slowly and sniffing carefully all round near the photograph as though the scent of someone were there, and satisfied herself that all was safe. Then she sat down again in a corner of the verandah, perfectly calm and happy."
I find it very interesting because what I had felt during the day-time was felt by the dog in the evening. The dog felt the Mother's presence. First she got frightened and remained very far from the Mother's photograph, she began to bark. Then slowly she went a little nearer, stopped and began to bark once more. Again she came back, then went forward still nearer than before, and began to bark again. She repeated this several times. At the end she went near the Mother's photograph with the help of Umaben.
I wanted to see what the dog was doing all on her own. And it was interesting to watch her movements and her expression.

Heal with her feet the aching throb of life.

Heal with her feet the aching throb of life.

From the book   "Memorable Contacts with The Mother" written by Nirodbaran
In 1955 the Mother had spoken to me about the manifestation of the Supermind which, she was expecting, would take place on 24th April, 1956.
But then it manifested on 29th February, 1956;
and on the 24th of April of that year it was first announced.
Nishikanta had written to the Mother to keep him alive till that date and the Mother had given him her word.
Now there were only three more days to go and he was on his death-bed.
Somehow he survived till the Darshan day. Just after the darshan was over, we brought him on a stretcher for the Mother’s darshan. The stretcher was placed at the foot of the staircase. She came down followed by Pranab and others. We raised the stretcher. Nishikanta stretched out his feeble hands. The Mother at once clutched them with both her hands and, drawing them towards herself, silently smiled into his wide open supplicating eyes. Then with her delicate fingers she smoothed his anguished brow, wiping away, as it were, all the dark karmic scripts from it.
Suddenly Nishikanta, pointing to his chest, whispered haltingly,
“Mother, your foot here!”
The stretcher was put down. The Mother holding Pranab’s arm for support placed her right foot gently upon his chest. Nishikanta pressed it with his trembling hands.
Sri Aurobindo’s mantric verse came to my mind:

Heal with her feet the aching throb of life.

In the evening when I went to see Nishikanta, there was no longer that fevered restlessness; the face and body breathed serenity.
In a low voice he said,
“That hell-fire within has subsided. Ah! the body has become ice-cool. Every cell is soothed with peace and peace.”
This was the miracle that happened before our eyes in 1956.
Nishikanta lived on seventeen years more!

                                     Divine's way of working;

From the book ' One of  Mother's Children' by Udar.
                                published by Sri Aurobindo Ashram
(Puja Day in 1954 Mother with Udar)

Once there was a great shortage of cement in the Ashram and as I was then in charge of purchases the responsibility for procuring it rested on me. So I asked our Mother to do something about it as really all our building work had come to a standstill. The suppliers of cement kept on regretting their inability to supply cement to us. The Mother said She would look into the matter.
Then the cement began to come, a regular flood. All our warehouses were full and we could not use the cement fast enough to meet the inflow. So the departments concerned asked me to stop the supply. I did this without consulting the Mother. The supply stopped. It stopped completely for such a long time that there was again a shortage, worse than before. I went once more to the Mother for Her help and told Her the whole story. She was displeased at my action in stopping the supply.
She said to me that when we go to the Divine for help we must be prepared to receive it in whatever measure it comes. If the supplies were large, we should have enlarged our capacity to use them. To have stopped the supply, as I did, showed a great lack of understanding of the Divine's way of working and so was quite unspiritual.

UNDERSTANDING WITHOUT LANGUAGE

from the book" Champaklal Speaks".(Edited by M. P. Pandit
Revised by; Roshan Published by : Sri Aurobindo Ashram Pondicherry)

25.6.1926

The kuja used for storing drinking water for Mother had been kept on the terrace for drying in the sun. While talking to Champaben I asked her: "Have you cleaned this kuja?"

Before Champaben could reply, the Mother who was present, said "Yes," and smiled. Then she added: "I have replied without knowing but I would like to know your question. You see, I didn't know what you said in Gujarati but I understood it. I understand all the languages."

     C: "All the languages?"

Mother: "Yes, but the person who wants to say something must be clear in his mind, absolutely clear. I don't know Tamil, but sometimes when people are clear in their mind, I understand everything."

C: "Then did you understand everything that Champaben and I were saying? Does your knowing depend upon external circumstances?"

Mother: "Of course, I cannot understand immediately, every- thing on every subject. But there is another method of knowing. I concentrate and enter into your mind, and I know. But I do not always take the trouble to do this."

C: "Suppose something is very clear in my mind but I cannot say it, not knowing the language well enough. I then sit quietly near you. Can you know what I want to say?"

Mother: "Yes"

C: "What is the meaning of 'clear'?"

Mother: "People think that their ideas are clear, their feelings are clear; but generally they are not. Very few people have that kind of clear thought in their minds. Take for instance, Madame Potel [a French disciple]. "When she wants to send something to me, a letter or bread or anything, I come to know of it as soon as she thinks of it, - even before I receive what she has sent. That lady has this capacity. Though spiritually she has not advanced very far (she has only recently started her sadhana) she has worked very hard along this line."

C: "Do you know her thoughts by your power or because she directs it towards you?"

Mother: "Many are advanced in their sadhana but do not have this capacity. They may have big ideas and all that, but not this power. I had a friend who was a beginner in sadhana; yet every time he wrote a letter I used to know its contents before I received it. Only a few have this capacity by birth. So when 1 want to know exactly about the sadhaks I enter into their consciousness and I know what I want to know."

THOUGHT COMMUNICATION

Mother used to place a vase of flowers on the table in the verandah of Library House where those who were permitted would meet Sri Aurobindo in the mornings. One day I found that the vase was no longer there and there were no flowers. This continued for some time. Finally one day I arranged some flowers in a vase and put them on the table. When she saw them, Mother asked me: "When did you get this idea of keeping flowers here?"

C: "I had been thinking of it for many days. But I felt you may not want it and what you do not want I did not want to do. Why do you ask, Mother?"

Mother: "Why I am asking is this: the other day when we spoke about clarity of mind I put this idea of keeping flowers in the atmosphere - that somebody should bring flowers for Sri Aurobindo. I wanted to see who receives it first. Now I see that you have been the first. Very interesting, very interesting."

Spiritual significance of the flowers

White Lotus  - Aditi - The Mother.

Aditi is the indivisible consciousness, force and Ananda of the Supreme; the Mother, its living dynamis, the supreme Love, Wisdom, Power.

                                                                    -  SRI AUROBINDO

All is created by the Supreme Goddess,

the Supreme and Original Mahashakti,

all proceeds from her,

all lives by her,

all lives in her,

even as she lives in all.

All wisdom and knowledge are her wisdom and knowledge;

all power is her power,

all will and force her will and force,

all action is her action,

all movement her movement.

All beings are portions of her power of existence.

                                               SRI AUROBINDO

Red Lotus : The Avatar.

In a general way the lotus is the flower of

the Divine Wisdom, whatever its colour.

But red signifies the Avatar, the Divine

incarnated in matter, and white signifies

the Divine Consciousness manifested upon

earth.
